Scott

I still can not come to grips with Scott's passing. We have know each other for a long time and shared a special friendship. We were in the Air Force together in Denver and I met Scott when he was a brand new 2nd Lt. and we became good friends. Over the time we were in Denver I drove Scott to the emergency room at Fitz. to get his finger patched up. I opened the car door where he had locked his hand after I got over my laughter. His excitement for life was contagious and he lived his life to the fullest. We also both worked for Digital Equipment Corp./Compaq/HP and had managed to stay in touch over the years. We talked about a lot of things and shared happy thought and sad thoughts. I loved Scot like the Brother I never had. God Bless you Scott and God please give Margaret and the family the strength to deal with this tragedy.

Margaret and Family,
You were our neighbors for many years, always friendly and willing to help. We may no longer live next door to each other, but we think of you often. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sue, Wes, Caitlin and Alex

Sad day

Dear Margret and family-

Words cannot express my sadness hearing of Scotts passing. Thank you for sharing him with us. The times I had the honor of mountain biking with Scott were all special, his enthusiasm was epic, and even now I can't help but smile. He was very special, and his spirit will live on with every turn of my cranks.

My Deepest, Sincerest Condolences

Margaret and family,

I am deeply, sadly sorry for your loss. This kind of news is surreal. I always felt that Scott's energy would see his life deep into the winter years of life. Instead, I now reflect back on Scott's life of energy as a reflection of how wholly he lived it, everyday! Scott's zest and knowledge allowed me to experience some of the happiest and most memorable times of my life. Trips and laughter and magic I shall never forget. Although I haven't seen the family since Margaret's health issues developed, you have always been on my mind with hopes of a reunion to catch up on your adventures and stories. I will miss hearing and seeing the sheer excitement in his voice as he shared the joy and memories of his trips and races. My fondest memories will always be of the times we stayed at the Scudamore home, talking, laughing, pj parties, touring the local sites. Included in that as well, was the Belgium trip we had the privilege of sharing. Scott gave our group a safe feeling and showed us part of that country we would have otherwise never seen. I know he treasured those times and indulged himself into enjoying each and every moment of our Lotti world. Those are the memories that are now impressed in my heart. To you Margaret and the girls, I will keep you in my prayers as you face the challenges of the days ahead. I share your feelings and your grief and hope that Scott's love of life help you continue in yours. I believe him to be your new angel in heaven watching over the family he helped create, as ultimately YOU were the loves of his life. If there is any way I can help, please let me know. It would be my honor to do so.

May God bless you at this most difficult time, and may you remember the outpouring of love from your family and friends in the years to come. It will become a warm comfort.

With all my love,
Coco

Sorely Missed

Dear Margaret,

Scott was a friend and such a powerful force in all that he did in this life. One only had to meet Scott once and they would never forget him. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Scott touched so many lives in so many positive ways. He will not be forgotten and he will be sorely missed each and every day. God bless.

Scott - the brightest part of any day.

Dear Margaret,

Prayers for Scott and love to you and your family and all the Scudfries in the world. I was Scott's System Engineer at HP until he retired to be with you and his family. He helped me bring me into the world of his customers and their special needs. But always his thoughts were of you and his family. He frequently reminded me of the real reasons we work. And his reasons for retiring were equally clear. He loved life and he loved you, and your daughters and grandkids. I heard so much, with so much flavor and zest, I feel like I know each of you - if just a little. And I will always remember.

And for all us IT geeks, who are also a part of the Scudfries Team, we ride with Scott too.

With Prayers and Sympathy

Thinking of you all!

Dear Margaret and family,
As I mentioned to Martin, I feel so honored and lucky to have had the opportunity to meet you, Scott, and your gorgeous granddaughter; it was a truly a privilege to have you all here at Mambo 64, and at my home. Margaret, I've been thinking of you a lot since September 22nd, and will continue to do so. Biggest of hugs from all of us,
Arlen

I will never forget his spirit

Margaret, Jen, Krista and family - I am so so sorry to hear about Scott - I am treating my patients today with a very heavy heart. I was so proud to be part of "Team Scud" and felt priviledged to get to know him and his family and friends. He was a courageous man with an enormous heart and was always sure to ask others how they were doing in the midst of his own very serious issues. He never complained and constantly spoke optimistically about his situation.

I would talk with him about the friends and family rallying around him, some of them driving from Virginia to New Jersey just to see him for a few hours! I said that he gave so much to his community and now they were giving back to him. He inspired so many in his life and I will never forget his spirit.

I am thinking of all of you at this sad time.
love, Barb

Barbara Garrett PT, 2013-12-30 17:48:31

May you be comforted

To the Scudamore Family,
From the first day of news to today, it doesn't seem possible. I am so sorry for your loss. Yes, it will take time yet when that day comes and you reflect on Scott's incredible life, it will be tales of happiness that fill your hearts. He gave so much to so many. I am thankful to have known him. Be comforted in the days ahead. The memories will shield you.

Bridget Zolman, 2013-12-30 17:47:19

Will always be missing you

So sad that you left us all too soon. But you tought each and everyone of us how we should be living out lives, like bright stars, always inspiring others to reach further than they thought they could. I was so amazed at you joyful spirit. Even when you cracked collar bones trying to jump over logs, it never set you back. As soon as you healed or maybe even before, you were back out there jumping logs again, living life like a kid. That spirit will continue to enlighten and grow in each one you touched as we carry on here in this world. But I know that you will be guiding our paths every way that turn, helping us through good and bad, with an ever eager passion for adventure. Never let a day go by without making something good happen for someone you touch. That is what Scud would want. I will miss you always. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and frriends here on earth. We are going to give you a heck of a send off. Happy bunny hopping across the sky,Scud.

Dear Margaret, Krista, Jen, and the rest of the Scudamore family,

Praying for your family

Dear Jen and Scudamore family,
I am so sad that you have had to say goodbye to your dad. I can see he had such an amazing and unique life, full of rich experiences and wonderful relationships with so many people. My younger sister Kim played soccer on his team the "Red Devils" in the 80's. She has such fantastic memories of those years on the team. Her first season with him, and they never lost a game, which was a completely opposite experience to her previous team. I have heard about it from years since. She went on to play soccer in college. He was such an inspiring and positive force for the girls. I am so sorry for your loss, and happy for you that you have such a wonderful Dad. Take Care, Love,
Wendy Bell

Great Sadness

I can only hope that I can live my life as well as Scud. He had an ability to encourage you. An ability to make you feel special. I am a single father, and I don't know how many time he told me how good of a job I was doing even when I thought I was not. I will miss those words. We will all miss him. My thoughts are with his family. You can all be proud of his legacy.

Thom Moore, 2013-12-29 16:31:28

Soul sadness

Fare well Scud. This is one of the saddest days I can remember, the loss of one of the most energetic, positive, sharing, and loving friends I have ever met. Rest in Peace and go with God, Scott. I cry for you and for your wonderful family. I will always ride with you.

Saint Margaret (and all Scud's family), I am sure you know that Scott's hundreds of friends are thinking of you, crying with you, and will always be your friends, too.

We will all miss him so much.

Proud to have been able to know you

For the entire Scudamore Clan; What an inspirer, ambassador, what a legacy. Devoted Father, soccer player, mountain biker, club leader, trail maintenance educator, xterra junkie!, river rescue rookie of the year and now an inspiration for anyone with a sports injury. The list goes on and on. The man was and will continue to be like the ever ready bunny, he never stops. My family was fortunate to spend a similar amount of time with my Mom prior to her passing. Her lesson to the Family was, remember every thing that made you smile about us and talk about it and smile often, my passing is a celebration. We have been doing this anytime we are together since 1995. Scud has made many people smile, he is somewhat of a rock star! Talk about the things that made you smile, Scud's stories could fill a book!

Mine are good rides, miles, trips. laughs and camping with Scud and Saint Margaret.

God bless us all

Fletcher, proud to know Scud and be an original "Fry Head"

Sympathies

The news this morning is heartbreaking. Scott was bigger than life and I believed he would somehow conquer this injury. I am greatly saddened by the thought of a world without Scott but I, also, know Scott touched so many people with his work/play ethic and many new Scotts will come forward to show people how to better themselves. No great person can be replaced but the void they leave behind is filled by a similar visionary impacting even more people. Rest in peace my good friend. Prayers and thoughts to all Scott's family and friends.

Thinking of you and your family!

Hi Scud,

We thought of you fondly yesterday on a little family ski adventure. It was great to be out in the cold with the snow and ice helping some little ones down the mountain, a true Scud adventure. Lots of shared learning and fun!

Margaret - hope all is well with you - you are truly an amazing woman.

We think about and pray for you both and your family every day.

We loved the story from your car - and it went quickly. Everything on this site just screams what amazing people you both are and how much and many you have touched.

We are so blessed and honored to be among those you call friends.

Take care!

Inspiring...

Scott & family...

You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. After a late indoor soccer game tonight, I just finished a first draft of a Christmas note for co-workers and neighbors that will accompany Jen's famous (in honor of Scott) salsa. I'm sure I will rewrite it another ten times before delivering it, but I included a quote that summed up some of my feelings about you right now--

"What lies behind us and what lies in front of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Ralph Waldo Emerson
I think I have been in awe of you, Scuds, since meeting you in the 1980's. I met Jen at a Strikers' soccer practice/tryout and Scott was coaching/cheerleading on and off the field ; ). That was the beginning of an amazing, life long friendship that has touched me and my extended family through soccer, softball, biking, family trips, weddings, parties, graduations, etc. As I said at Jen's wedding toast after much rambling on and on and on and on ... there is so much to say about my feelings for Jen and the Scudamore family, but ultimately, it all comes down to ... I Love You Guys!

Scott, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a second father to me during troubled times. Your love and friendship has meant more than I could ever express.

God Bless you and Margaret, Jen, Krista, your grandkids, family members and the tens of thousands of people you have touched

Tara Cristian Perdue, 2013-12-21 02:58:11

Merry Christmas to the Scud Buds

I posted this on Facebook but I am sure you and Saint Margaret are about a million behind, here it is

We are all on the home stretch. I know many will be traveling or expecting family and friends to be arriving in the upcoming days. Be safe! Enjoy the time with Loved Ones. I did not want to get caught up at the last minute and not say Merry Christmas to All. Remember the "Reason for the Season!" Make good memories and share them often, it makes people smile!

Fletcher Harris, 2013-12-21 02:56:56

Slacker!

Not you, me...

Once again I neglected my Scudfries.org duties; that's the bad news. The GOOD is that there are lots of new comments and well wishes of you to read 🙂

I'm so sorry I have not been up to see you buddy, but YOU KNOW that you are 100% in my thoughts all day ever day (like I said before, it's creepy 😉

I am keeping busy making sure no one goes without an "I Ride for Team SCUD" sticker, or even a hug - I am your proxy 😉

I love you Amigo!

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas season

Hi Scud,

We've been tracking your progress from a far. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and continue to make tremendous progress.
As is likely the case with a lot of your fans, you might not know who I am, but I definitely know who you are. I always got a kick out of our brief encounters in the NoVa mtn bike scene and at a few Xterra's.

I recall a particular year I had moved back to doing Xterra Sport after doing Xterra Champions course 3 times, and you came along as an Xterra Ambassador in Richmond shouting encouragement to all of the nervous newbies lined up to get their race #'s stamped. When you came across me in line you just gave me some good natured ribbing for slacking in the Sport category.

Take care Scud and Merry Christmas to you and the family,

Jim & Amy Casey

Homeward Bound

Scott and Margret,
Today my dad and I are in a medical transport van, finally returning to NC after his stroke in June. What a long 6 months it has been for us. blessings

Hi Scott,

I'm your favorite slow Pilsner pouring bartender friend of Tony and Lauras from Brevard. I wanted to reach out to you and tell you how incredibly sorry I am to hear the news of your accident. I have read some of your stories and they are inspiring to say the least. What I am interested in now is all the new stories you will have in your life. You will meet these challenges just like you did those on the trails....Head on and with confidence! There are many great things left for you to do and accomplish in life Scott! I would like to share one of my favorite quotes..."Paths chosen for us by God all lead onward and upward, even when they seem to turn about in inextricable confusion and move downward to the valleys of humiliation and suffering. He is the All-wise and to him wisdom is the way by which Love gains his victory."

G.Morgan Bless you Scott!

Stay strong my friend and know you are not alone and you are so loved by so many..

Happy Turkey Day

Hey Scud! I see you're doing well. I haven't had a chance to go to an EX2 even but I figure, as soon as you can figure out to make your chair a 29er with front suspension, I'll see you on the trail. "When you come to the end of all the light you know, and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, FAITH is knowing that one of two things shall happen; either you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly."

I have FAITH that your purpose in life is bigger than any of us knows. You are amazing.
I am thinking of you this Thanksgiving...Thank you for being my wonderful Father, Thank you for teaching by example, and Thank you for soldiering on into the darkness of the unknown with your own light of grace, positive spirit and dignity. I love you with all my heart.

Thinking about you

Another weekend has passed by, and another weekend spent with friends on bikes in woods. Thought about you a lot on Sunday Scott, as we rode in the George Washington National Forest. It was in this forest around 1994 or '96(?) that we re-met each other, after knowing each other on the soccer pitch for a few years prior.

Driving back home to PA, after a great ride, getting all happy sappy, thinking of how lucky I am to have such friends and experiences. If it's true that the best we can do with our time here is to have meaningful relationships and make a difference in those we know, then I'm so thankful to have you as a friend. You have made a tremendous difference.

Love, and Happy Thanksgiving week to Margaret, you, and all of your Scud Nation.

Chanting for you!

Scott, my name is Deborah Eby. My son, Ben Touval, is one of your many, many mountain biking proteges. You may or may not be aware that he is a passionate downhiller and works at The Bike Lane.

I am sending along some information to help your healing. I am a Nichiren Buddhist and the following links explain and demonstrate the kind of chanting we do. It's perfectly compatible with any other spiritual practice. It's simply a useful tool to sync up with the life force of the universe and channel it into your life. It's particularly effective for physical healing. If you find it helpful, wonderful. I will be chanting for your complete healing from now on.

Attacking the trail, attacking recovery

September 22 I was celebrating my 66th birthday, not knowing that far to the east, a friend was having a horrible day. I know your recovery will be difficult, but I KNOW YOU dude, and know your great attitude and courage will bring you through. I remember how you would attack a gnarly section of trail, and the thousand watt smile on your face when you conquered it. So... Just clip in, spin like a SOB, and come out the other end smiling!

Scott buddy, I'm sending as much positive energy your way as is possible. Never forget those GW forest night rides!

Hey you other MORE people, here's a new trail name
Looking for the right trail: "SCUDS GNARVANA"

Your progress has been amazing. Keep it up!

You are my hero

You're the reason I keep going. Even before gravity got the better of you, I have always though, if Scud can do it, I can do it. You are going to be the stuff medical miracles are made of.

Get well soon

Scott,
I was trying to look you up on the internet to tell you that I was going to retire from government service in a few weeks. Then, I see that you had this horrific accident. You can conquer this old buddy. If you can build IDHS systems in spite of DIA getting in your way, you can get through this. Our prayers are with you.

Thinking of you both....

Scott & Margaret,

Another day, another bunch of thoughts and prayers for you two. Started the Volvo and used your leaf blower to clear your yard and deck yesterday. Lots of leaves, but now they are in your neighbors' yards 🙂 Your house, yard, and stuff are all fine and waiting anxiously like the rest of us to see you both back home. Was GREAT to hear your voice and see how well (Jen's video) you're doing! You both continue to be an inspiration in more ways than you know. Keep up the awesome teamwork! Oh, and Happy Veterans Day Scott. Lots of love from Team Kamorski....Mike

Mike Kamorski, 2013-11-13 03:59:18

good old days

Ray and I are thinking of you and your family and praying for your speedy recovery. We too had a scare around the time of your accident. Ray was stabbed in the face and neck and had his lung punctured by a crazed man while working as a night auditor at a local hotel. It was touch and go for a while, but with the love and prayers of our family and friends, he is on the road to recovery. So, my man Scott, I will devote a portion of my nightly prayers to you as a "pay it back" effort for all those who prayed for Ray. We remember you well and all the wonderful laughter you caused. Love and prayers to you and your family.

Veteran's Day 2013

Scott,
I haven't messaged since the first week, but am remembering all the life adventures when I was in the Army in the early 70's. Just wanted to say THANKS for YOUR SERVICE on this Veteran's Day 2013 and sure as heck next year will probably be completely different given your will and drive.
From one old mountain biker to another.

Carpool to Kessler?

Could I catch a ride with anyone going up to Kessler this month? I'm in Rockville Maryland and could go on a weekday or weekend. Of course I'd be happy to share driving and gas. Martin and Jason, would there be any way to facilitate ride-sharing on this site?

Laura Kennedy, 2013-11-10 21:53:56

Hello friend!

Hi Scud!
I just came across the "trophy" they gave us for winning our age groups at Monticello and thought of you. Hope you're doing well in recovery and staying positive. Thinking healing thoughts for you, friend.

Music to our ears.....

Good Morning!
We just wanted you to know that hearing your voice in our home last night on speaker phone was music to our ears! That was our Christmas present this year and the best one anyone could ever get! Miss Margaret....there isn't a moment that we don't think about you....keep on taking good care of yourself and getting restful nights. We love you both....

Thinking of you'd daily!!

Hello Amigo!! Just want to let you know that not a moment goes by without you in my thoughts; I'm constantly sending good vibes your way and hoping that you clear every day's little hurdles in style - just like you know how. I'm sorry I have not been able to be physically with you, but I really am with you in spirit every single moment - I hope you know that 🙂

Managing this little space with Jason has been great, and coming in a few times a day to check and approve well wished and comments has become part of my daily routing - much like your regular phone calls were just a few weeks ago. It helps me really stay connected with you.

Love you Uncle Scott!!

Muddy Saturday

Hey Scott,

Greg Z and I did the Tough Mudder in Charlotte on Saturday and thoughts of you were with us the whole way. We got really muddy and tired - my calves cramped up pretty bad toward the end, but otherwise all went well.

Your spirit and strength inspire us. Stay stong, can't wait to see you. We'll be thinking about you tonight at the LMWRT monthly meeting.

Best Wishes for a speedy recovery

Guess you are causing us to increase our knowledge and use of these social medias as we are just learning how to navigate the systems. Jen showed us the picture of you in your new wig and you look great. Keep up your spirits and hopefully we will get the opportunity to get up to New Jersey to visit you. Of course Carlos is ready for Halloween and we missed you and Margaret at the party Saturday Night. Carlos supprised us dressed as a Hot Dog His favorite food group.
Love you much Carlos and Margaret.

Super Man!

Scud!

No words can convey the thoughts and feelings of my family. Everyone who lives an active lifestyle realizes we could easily be where you are now. So, with you in mind I will continue to count my blessings, exercise a higher degree of caution in everything I do, while trying to maximize fun and adventure.

We have a one level house with a view if the Sangre De Cristo mountains. This is the southernmost tip of the Rockys. I envision the mountains I see from my kitchen contain a series of trails that stretch far into Canada. My mind wanders with possibilites. When you are fit for travel, and whatever that entails, you and your sweet wife are welcome to visit. One whole side of our home is windows. The views change every ten minutes with atmospheric conditions, and Cassie and I feel like we are living a dream.

The Hayne Santa Fe guest room will always be available for you folks.

Stay strong Scud! There is much love for you Bro-

Scud, you'll be glad to know that even the copperheads at Accotink have called a truce in your honor. Your resilience is awe-inspiring, as always. God Bless you, dude!

It is all about the journey (and the tailgate!)

Yep - got to be about the journey since the game was . . . well, let's just not go there! Seems the 'Hoos have just not been the same since you last saw them play, in the pouring rain that soggy Saturday! Regardless, the tailgate - which is a major part of the journey each Saturday - was great. As you know, getting together with your kids and old friends is what life is about.

We miss having you at the Saturday gatherings and look forward to planning a trip to NJ. Reading all the stories - I know you are accomplishing so much every day.

Keep up the great Scud spirit. You, Margaret and the rest of the family - in our thoughts and prayers daily!

Stay Scud Strong!

Hi Buddy...

Scott,
Sounds like the rehab folks are having a hard time keeping up with you! No surprise to any of us who know you; you leave a trail of inspiration everywhere you go.
We got your tree down and I finally figured out how to use movie maker and post to youtube...you can see for yourself.
Keep rocking your recovery and working hard. And LISTEN to Saint Margaret, she's a saint for good reason! We all miss and love you both...Mike

A Love Letter to Margaret

Margaret, you might not know this, but a couple months ago, Scud made a generous donation to my Kickstarter campaign that is funding the debut film of our new series, "National Park Experience." His reward for donating at this level was a video love letter to the love of his life-- obviously, you! So we took his letter with us to Grand Teton National Park the week of October 16, and read it in front of the camera between shoots.

I was heartbroken to get the news of his accident so soon after filming this, and feel humbled to be able to share Scud's beautiful memories with you during such challenging times. If you don't mind, we'd like to feature this on our blog next week at http://www.npexperience.com/, in Scud's honor. In the meantime, you can watch the video here: https://vimeo.com/77932011

Tom and I are sending love and strength to you both. You're in our thoughts daily!

Love,
Amy

Chef Scott

Scott, some of my favorite memories of you are connected to your cooking. I remember you making the most amazing campground gourmet meal for me, Bean, Nancy D., and Nancy T., when we were doing a tour with Chris Scott. I also remember the making of Scudfries at the Wildflower Mtn Biking fundraiser held in the back of Bonzai...the tent almost caught fire, but luckily that disaster was averted. I've been blown away reading about your progress. It's so inspirational...KEEP GOING!! - Mary

Mary English, 2013-10-28 02:11:18

Sweat, cooking oil, and pasta sauce

Scud, The SM 100 and making scud fries for hours until late it night is a lasting memory. I can never thank you enough for cooling me off with the hose at the CM 12 Hour! Heal fast.....

Thoughts and prayers

Scott - you, Margaret, Jen and your whole family have been in the forefront of our thoughts and prayers. Martin has been fantastic with his updates on Facebook and elsewhere. And yes, it is amazing to see all the folks who are rooting for you - even quite a few you're not even aware of. Have a quick story on that, but will save it to tell you in person. We'll be visiting soon. Will be in touch with Jen and/or Martin to coordinate.

Jeff Frederick, 2013-10-26 18:36:47

Vamos!

Having a great time managing your new site Scott; Can;t wait to get with you to show you how you can update it on your own and let everyone know how you are doing. Sending lots of love with Christina and Jen as they make their way up to see you this weekend. Hoping I can get my butt up there soon to give you a hard time 🙂

Martin, 2013-10-25 18:51:32

We recently learned of your accident from another guests here at the park. Amanda Elmore, 2013-10-25 18:43:03

Posted this somewhere. maybe you'll see it twice

Hi Scott, Sounds like you're rocking you rehab. Keep up the good work. It must be challenging to be mindful of all the necessary steps you have to take, but you're up to it. I'm sure there will be setbacks, but you'll ride them out. We're all with you.

Jim Hasenauer, 2013-10-25 18:42:33

On my way in 2 days Dad!!!!

Dad,
I can't tell you how slow these last few days have been knowing that I am coming to see you this weekend! I miss you so very much. I just can't wait to wrap my arms around you and see all the tiny miracles that have happened since the last time we were together at UVA. It seems like forever! Get lots of rest tomorrow because Christina and I have a great weekend planned for you and we fully plan on you showing us all your new tricks you have picked up since being at Kessler!
The kids send their love and they pray for you everyday! They especially pray that you don't run mom over with your new set of wheels! We need her around for the long haul!!!
Rest easy old man...and know that I am just shy a few days from coming to visit you.
Think of you every second of the day and love you more everytime I think of you!!!
Love, jen

Jennifer , 2013-10-25 18:42:02

Keep up the good work!

It does my heart good to read the update of your adventures in rehab! Sounds like you're working it! Your fighting spirit & positivity are inspiring. I'll keep sending you good thoughts, though. 😉
I've not met you, but had the pleasure of meeting your brother, Marc, & his wife at XTERRA Camp Eagle in 2012.
Best wishes to you & your family.

Thinking of you!

Hi Margaret & Scud!

Just wanted you all to know we are thinking of you! Am so glad we have Facebook and your good friends who have set up this site so we can follow your healing progress - and I know each day is bringing progress, as you wouldn't have it any other way!

Scott, several years ago you and I were riding a pre-ride for the CCC and I was struggling up that damn Burma Road Hill. You turned to me and told me to keep going! It was a journey! I hope you will follow your own advice. I have! I ran the Army 10 Miler on Sunday! Can you imagine me, a RUNNER! I am now training for the Disney World Half in January. Who would have thought!

As I was running on Sunday - I was thinking of all of the people who have touched my life and the two of you were on my mind. I think of the paths we all take in life and the unexpected turns that we inevitably take. You are touching people in NJ now, as they are touching you!

We will continue to keep you both in our thoughts and prayers. You are blessed with a great family and friends and we are all on this journey with you whether it be in person or in spirit!

Love to you both!
Tracy

Tracy Ballesteros, 2013-10-24 13:35:42

Thinking of you

Scud,

We played softball together recently on the senior team. You were so kind to me. My daughter was the little girl that recently died of cancer. You were tender with me - and outgoing and I enjoyed our visit that day.

We had all wondered what happened and then one of the guys found out you'd had this accident. Know that I am praying for your recovery to surpass everyone's expectations - which, after reading your site, is truly your style anyway.

Alyssa demonstrated in her ten years a kind of inner strength and determination that no matter what her circumstances, she was going to live each day to the fullest - and thus, our battle cry for her to "Live Alyssa Live!!!" The best thing I know to do is to hope that you embody her spirit in your own battle...as it appears you already do.

Sending a giant hug for you - and for your wife. I know what it is to stand helplessly by doing what you can but it is never enough...

Lynn Divers
Forever Alyssa's Mommy

Lynn Divers, 2013-10-23 22:36:15

Keep on Improving!!

We keep checking the site each day and love the stories - just smile and shake our heads cuz, yep that's Scud! - Sounds like Kessler is keeping you busy and you in turn are keeping them on their toes! Looking forward to reading about all that is happening there and taking a road trip up north.

We will be thinking about you at Saturday's tailgate - sure hope the game goes better than last week!!

Tim & Janelle Whalen, 2013-10-23 22:35:15

See you soon!

Hey Scud! I was SO hoping to catch up with you at the Clips & Brews festival to tell you about Alex's first SINGLE TRACK experience- she rocked it- deep sand, skinny broken bridges, and cliff edges along the river on the RT. I couldn't get her off the bike at the Paranormal, and she has wanted to do more and more little challenges. She obviously got off to the right start ;). We miss you, and can't wait to see you soon! Love, hugs & kisses to you and Margaret! Mandy

Let's hear from you, Scud!

Scott-It seems like you are starting to use your voice, and that's great news! I bet that everyone in Scud's Army would be thrilled to read a few words from the Commander in Chief himself! How about composing a short message for one of your buds to post here? Maybe soon we could see a photo of your smiling face, a short video of your new skills, or updates on your new workout regime and how it's going. We know there will be ups and downs, and we'll be with you through it all. Bring it, Scud!

Laura Kennedy, 2013-10-23 14:15:16

2013 Paranormal video

Hey Scud,
Take a break from your rehab for just a minute and check out a video of the Start of the 2013 Paranormal. Since it was a benefit race for ya, we picked the video's music with you in mind.

DCCX!

Scud- we had a fantastic day at DCCX. The government shutdown ended on the last possible day, allowing us back on the course. The home is funded in part by federal dollars, so it was closed during the shutdown. The weather, as always, was perfect. Not too warm, but just warm enough for short sleeves- in the 60s. The atmosphere and food was great. We haven't had Scud Fries for a couple years, but people are still talking about them! Once we got permission to have food vendors and the race kept growing we tasked our people to other stuff. With a fairly small team and 700-850 racers every year, its a lot of work to pull it off. Plus, we are always trying to make it a little better. This year we had an all-women drum line and the return of the Mariachi band. I saw some guys- Chris Scott and others- with the orange Scud bracelets. There's a lot of Scud-love at DCCX! Good luck with your new race- it's a tough one, but nobody has more positive energy. We are all rooting for you! Marc

Checking In

So I hear you're already kicking ass and taking names at rehab. I expected nothing less. I know you're going to show the folks at Kessler a thing or two about fortitude, toughness and pure raw determination.

Looking forward to my visit in November.

Hang in there. See you in a couple of weeks.

Love,

Marc

Keep Pushing!

Hi Scud!
I've been thinking of you constantly, and admire your strength and ability to live life as it was meant to be lived. Thank you for instilling the passion for soccer (!), and adventure in all of us. Keep pushing hard in your recovery, we are all praying for you!

I LOVE YOU DAD!!!!

I'm not with you right now at Kessler, but I am thinking of you every second of the day!!! I have never loved you more than I do now! I am so proud of the man you are and the man you will become because of all of this. I will see you in a few weeks...and when I do, I look forward to seeing all that you will have accomplished! Push on...old man! I'm praying for you and I'm cheering you on in spirit!
I LOVE YOU DAD!!!

Scud

I once met a spirit so powerful it moved me.
Through valley and forest, over mountains.
The sun set, I was tired.
I feared I lost the way.
Yet before me was a path.
And the spirit I found was within me.

SLT, 2013-10-18 00:22:23

We love you Scud!

Scud is one of the most caring, generous people I know, and we are all saddened by this accident. He is also, however, a tough old goat, and if anyone can emerge from this safe & sound, it is he! The Clarks will be keeping him and all of you in the family in our hearts and our prayers, and will keep track of progress here. From Connecticut, there is not much else we can think of to do, but will gladly do anything that would help.
